1  AN ACT concerning local government.
2  Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3  represented in the General Assembly:
4  Section 5. The Revised Cities and Villages Act of 1941 is
5  amended by changing Section 21-28 as follows:
6  (65 ILCS 20/21-28) (from Ch. 24, par. 21-28)
7  Sec. 21-28. Nomination by petition.
8  (a) All nominations for alderperson of any ward in the
9  city shall be by petition. Each petition for nomination of a
10  candidate shall be signed by at least 473 legal voters of the
11  ward.
12  (b) All nominations for mayor, city clerk, and city
13  treasurer in the city shall be by petition. Each petition for
14  nomination of a candidate must be signed by at least 2,500
15  12,500 legal voters of the city.
16  (c) All such petitions, and procedure with respect
17  thereto, shall conform in other respects to the provisions of
18  the election and ballot laws then in force in the city of
19  Chicago concerning the nomination of independent candidates
20  for public office by petition. The method of nomination herein
21  provided is exclusive of and replaces all other methods
22  heretofore provided by law.
