Parent Advisory Committee. 8 (a) By December 31, 2023, the State Board of Education 9 shall establish a Parent Advisory Committee. Vacancies shall be filled in the same manner as 7 the original appointments. 8 (d) Prior to adopting any new teaching standard or 9 learning standard, the State Board shall convene the committee 10 and submit the proposed teaching standard or learning standard 11 to the committee for review. Following the committee's review 12 of the proposed teaching or learning standard, the committee 13 shall provide its recommendations on the proposed standard to 14 the State Board. The State Board is not required to accept any 15 of the committee's recommendations, but the State Board must 16 review and consider the recommendations made by the committee 17 prior to adopting the proposed teaching or learning standard. 18 (e) At the first meeting of the committee for the review of 19 a new teaching standard or learning standard proposed by the 20 State Board, the members of the committee shall elect a 21 chairperson from among its members to serve for the duration 22 of the committee's work on the proposed teaching or learning 23 standard. The committee shall meet at least once to review 24 each new teaching standard or learning standard proposed by 25 the State Board.
