HB2820 Engrossed LRB103 29740 JDS 56146 b
1 AN ACT concerning State government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and
5 Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is
6 amended by adding Section 2310-720 as follows:
7 (20 ILCS 2310/2310-720 new)
8 Sec. 2310-720. Respiratory emergencies during childbirth.
9 The Department of Public Health shall direct and assist
10 healthcare facilities that provide labor and delivery
11 services, including teaching hospitals, with the development
12 of a plan (i) to address airway emergencies when an individual
13 experiences respiratory failure during childbirth, (ii) to
14 maintain at those facilities equipment to deal with difficult
15 or failed intubation during childbirth, and (iii) to provide
16 notices and training to facility staff on the coordination of
17 care as necessary to prevent respiratory emergencies during
18 childbirth.
19 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
20 becoming law.
