The School Code is amended by adding Section 5 27-20.07 as follows: 6 (105 ILCS 5/27-20.07 new) 7 Sec. 27-20.07. Digital literacy instruction shall include 5 developmentally appropriate instruction in digital citizenship 6 skills, media literacy, and AI literacy as provided in this 7 Section. 8 (c) Digital literacy skills may, based on the 9 recommendation of the State Board of Education, incorporate 10 existing computer literacy standards. 11 (d) At a minimum, digital citizenship skills instruction 12 shall include all of the following: 13 (1) The meaning and impact of a student's digital 14 footprint while inside and outside of the classroom. 15 (2) Cybersecurity while inside and outside of the 16 classroom. 17 (e) At a minimum, media literacy instruction shall include 18 all media literacy requirements under Section 27-20.08 of this 19 Code. 20 (f) At a minimum, AI literacy instruction shall include 21 all of the following: 22 (1) What constitutes generative AI. 23 (2) Ethics and responsibilities associated with the 24 use of generative AI. 25 (3) Instruction on age-appropriate use of generative 26 AI.
