The Code of Civil Procedure is amended by 5 adding Section 21-106 as follows: 6 (735 ILCS 5/21-106 new) 7 Sec. 21-106. Legislative intent. Residents of this State 8 who were born in another state or in another country may have 9 difficulty in securing government-issued documents with the 10 correct information. It is the intent of the General Assembly 11 that Illinois should have a legal process available for these 12 residents to seek a judicial order making findings of fact so 13 that they may petition the issuing jurisdiction to change such 14 a document. 15 (a) Process. An Illinois resident may file a petition in 16 his or her county of residence asking for a court to issue a 17 finding of fact or facts to correct or update a 18 government-issued document from another state or country.
