1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate the Arab American
4 Democratic Club on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and
5 WHEREAS, The Arab American Democratic Club holds the
6 distinguished honor of being the very first Arab organization
7 of its kind in the State of Illinois and proudly remains the
8 longest-standing Arab organization in the region; and
9 WHEREAS, The Arab American Democratic Club was founded by
10 the visionary leader Samir Khalil and the late Miriam Ziyad,
11 pioneers who recognized the need for a platform that would
12 empower Arab Americans, celebrate their cultural heritage, and
13 advocate for their rightful place in the diverse tapestry of
14 Illinois; and
15 WHEREAS, Throughout its 40-year history, the Arab American
16 Democratic Club has remained unwavering in its commitment to
17 fostering civic engagement, promoting diversity, and advancing
18 the interests of Arab Americans, setting an inspiring example
19 for future generations; and
20 WHEREAS, The Arab American Democratic Club has not only
21 served as a vital pillar of support for the Arab American

1 community but has also played a pivotal role in building
2 bridges of understanding and cooperation among all communities
3 while championing unity, inclusivity, and activism as guiding
4 principles; and
5 WHEREAS, The Arab American Democratic Club has
6 significantly contributed to strengthening democracy through
7 leading efforts to increase voter participation, supporting
8 candidates who uphold its values, and advocating for policies
9 that ensure justice and equity for all; and
10 WHEREAS, The Arab American Democratic Club has played an
11 instrumental role in shaping the history and future of
12 Illinois, enriching the cultural fabric of the State, and
13 fostering a sense of pride and belonging for Arab Americans;
14 and
15 WHEREAS, The Arab American Democratic Club's 40th
16 anniversary is a historic milestone and an occasion to
17 celebrate the enduring legacy of its founders, Samir Khalil
18 and the late Miriam Ziyad, whose dedication and vision have
19 paved the way for the club's continued success; and
20 WHEREAS, The Arab American Democratic Club will celebrate
21 its 40th anniversary on November 1, 2023; therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3 we congratulate the Arab American Democratic Club, the first
4 and longest-standing Arab organization in the State of
5 Illinois, on its 40th anniversary; and be it further
6 RESOLVED, That we thank the Arab American Democratic Club
7 for its tireless efforts in promoting civic engagement,
8 fostering unity, and advocating for justice and equality; and
