1  HOUSE RESOLUTION
2  WHEREAS, On December 28, 1970, President Richard Nixon
3  signed into law the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA),
4  which went into effect on April 28, 1971; and
5  WHEREAS, In Illinois, 177 people were killed due to fatal
6  work injuries in 2022 according to the most recent report from
7  the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics; and
8  WHEREAS, All employers, private and public, should be
9  dedicated to improving workplace safety, seeking stronger
10  health standard enforcement, and treating workers with dignity
11  as constant improvements in worker safety are pursued; and
12  WHEREAS, Since 1989, workers and local government leaders
13  have gathered on April 28th to commemorate Workers Memorial
14  Day in honor of those who have lost their lives working to
15  provide a good standard of living for their families and
16  communities; and
17  WHEREAS, Americans can honor our workers by observing
18  Workers Memorial Day, remembering those victims of workplace
19  injuries and workplace-related disease, and rededicating
20  ourselves to improving safety and health in every American
21  workplace; therefore, be it

1  RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2  HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3  we declare April 28, 2024 as Workers Memorial Day in the State
4  of Illinois; and be it further
