The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by 5 changing Section 12-218 and by adding Section 12-218.5 as 6 follows: 7 (625 ILCS 5/12-218) 8 Sec. 12-218. Auxiliary accent lighting on motorcycles. 9 (a) A motorcycle registered in this State may be equipped 10 with, and a person operating the motorcycle may use, standard 11 bulb running lights or light-emitting diode (L.E.D.) pods and 12 strips as auxiliary lighting with the intent of protecting the 13 driver. 14 (b) Auxiliary lighting authorized under subsection (a) of 15 this Section: 16 (1) shall not project a beam of light of an intensity 17 greater than 25 candlepower or its equivalent from a 18 single lamp or single light-emitting diode (L.E.D.); 19 (2) shall not be directed horizontally; 20 (3) shall be so directed that no part of the beam will 21 strike the level of the surface on which the motorcycle 22 stands at a distance of more than 10 feet from the 23 motorcycle; SB0896 Engrossed LRB103 03368 HEP 48374 b SB0896 Engrossed- 2 -LRB103 03368 HEP 48374 b SB0896 Engrossed - 2 - LRB103 03368 HEP 48374 b SB0896 Engrossed - 2 - LRB103 03368 HEP 48374 b 1 (4) shall be directed towards the ground; 2 (5) shall not emit red or blue light; 3 (6) shall not be: 4 (A) blinking; 5 (B) flashing; 6 (C) oscillating; or 7 (D) rotating; and 8 (7) shall not be attached to the wheels of the 9 motorcycle. 10 (Source: P.A. 99-242, eff. 8-3-15.) 11 (625 ILCS 5/12-218.5 new) 12 Sec. 12-218.5. Optional lighting on motorcycles. 13 (a) A motorcycle may be equipped with 2 forward facing 14 electric turn signals mounted on or near the handlebar grip 15 assembly, or on the front fork assembly, or front fender 16 shroud. The lamps shall be mounted on the same level and as 17 widely spaced laterally as practicable, and when signaling, 18 shall emit a white or amber light. 19 (b) A motorcycle may be equipped with 2 forward facing 20 electric driving lights which display a steady-on white or 21 amber light. These lights may be in addition to but not in lieu 22 of the required lamps on motorcycles under Section 11-201 and 23 may be used either when the provisions of Section 11-201 are 24 required or not required.
