1  AN ACT concerning transportation.
2  Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3  represented in the General Assembly:
4  Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5  Section 3-699.22 as follows:
6  (625 ILCS 5/3-699.22 new)
7  Sec. 3-699.22. United States Submarine Veterans plates.
8  (a) The Secretary of State, upon receipt of all applicable
9  fees and applications made in the form prescribed by the
10  Secretary, may issue special registration plates designated as
11  United States Submarine Veterans plates to residents of this
12  State who served in the United States Navy as a submariner. The
13  special plates issued under this Section shall be affixed only
14  to passenger vehicles of the first division, motorcycles, and
15  motor vehicles of the second division weighing not more than
16  8,000 pounds. Plates under this Section shall expire according
17  to the multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of
18  this Code.
19  (b) The plates shall display the United States Submarine
20  Veterans logo and the phrase "Silent Service". In all other
21  respects, the design and color of the special plates shall be
22  wholly within the discretion of the Secretary. Appropriate
23  documentation, as determined by the Secretary, shall accompany

1  each application. The Secretary may, in his or her discretion,
2  allow the plates to be issued as vanity plates or personalized
3  in accordance with Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates
4  are not required to designate "Land of Lincoln", as prescribed
5  in subsection (b) of Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary
6  shall prescribe the eligibility requirements and, in his or
7  her discretion, shall approve and prescribe stickers or decals
8  as provided under Section 3-412.
