HR0162LRB104 12590 LAW 23171 r HR0162 LRB104 12590 LAW 23171 r HR0162 LRB104 12590 LAW 23171 r 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Annie 4 Pearl (Jones) Howard; and 5 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard was born to Nina Mae Jones and 6 Johnnie "Buster" Jones in Jackson, Mississippi on May 6, 1938; 7 she attended Martin Elementary School; she and her family then 8 moved to Chicago's South Side, settling in the Park Manor 9 neighborhood; she graduated from Doolittle Elementary School 10 and attended Parker High School before returning to Jackson, 11 Mississippi, where she cared for her father while continuing 12 her studies at Jim Hill High School; and 13 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard proceeded to move to New 14 Orleans, Louisiana, where she met and married Roosevelt "Cat" 15 "Catman" Howard, gaining a daughter, Della; together, the 16 couple had four children, Gwendolyn, Annette, Yvette, and 17 Johnny; she and her family relocated to Chicago in 1964, where 18 they welcomed their youngest child, Randy, before settling in 19 the Park Manor neighborhood; and 20 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard was a nurturer by nature and 21 had a way of making people feel seen and cared for, whether 22 through a comforting meal, a listening ear, or a firm but HR0162 LRB104 12590 LAW 23171 r HR0162- 2 -LRB104 12590 LAW 23171 r HR0162 - 2 - LRB104 12590 LAW 23171 r HR0162 - 2 - LRB104 12590 LAW 23171 r 1 loving word of advice; her home was the heart of every family 2 gathering and holiday celebration, a place where loved ones 3 came together to play games, dance late into the night, and 4 find unwavering support in her presence; and 5 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard committed to her faith at a 6 young age and loved blues music, especially the soulful 7 melodies of Johnny Taylor, B.B. King, Etta James, and Bobby 8 Bland; and 9 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard was a woman of quiet strength 10 and wisdom, bestowing upon her family the knowledge of past 11 generations; she will be remembered for the love she gave, the 12 taste of her cooking, and the sound of her laughter; and 13 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard was preceded in death by her 14 parents; her stepfather, Willie Thornton Jr.; her son, Johnny; 15 and two grandchildren; and 16 WHEREAS, Annie Pearl Howard is survived by her brother, 17 Pretic Buchanan Jr.; her children, Gwendolyn Annette, Yvette 18 Howard, Randy Howard, and Della M.
