Leising FUNDS AFFECTED:XGENERAL IMPACT: State DEDICATED FEDERAL Summary of Legislation: This bill amends the definition of "veterinarian" to allow a veterinary practitioner who: (1) holds a special permit issued by the Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners; or (2) is exempt from licensing and special permit requirements and is appointed by the Horse Racing Commission; to take or supervise the taking of biological samples from race horses. Effective Date: July 1, 2022. Explanation of State Expenditures: The bill broadens the definition of veterinarian for the purposes of taking or supervising the taking of biological samples from race horses. Any change in workload for the Horse Racing Commission, Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, and Professional Licensing Agency as a result of the bill would likely be minimal.
