Ledbetter, Lindauer _______________________, read first time and referred to Committee on 20222532 2022 HC 1029/DI 140 Introduced Second Regular Session of the 122nd General Assembly (2022) HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION No. ____ 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana 2 Department of Transportation to rename the bridge on I-69 over 3 the East Fork of the White River the "Gil Hodges Memorial 4 Bridge". 5 Whereas, Gil Hodges served our nation in the United States 6 Marine Corps; 7 Whereas, Gil Hodges received a Bronze Star for actions taken 8 in the Battle of Okinawa; 9 Whereas, Upon leaving the military, Gil Hodges rejoined 10 baseball and is given great credit for his role in the successful 11 integration of his friend Jackie Robinson into the major 12 leagues; 13 Whereas, Gil Hodges was a slugging first baseman who went 14 on to play in seven World Series, eight All Star games, and 15 received the first three Gold Glove Awards for a first baseman 16 in the National League; 17 Whereas, Gil Hodges held the National League record for 18 most home runs by a right-handed hitter and was the National 19 League's Grand Slam leader at retirement; and 20 Whereas, By the end of Gil Hodges' second campaign as New 21 York Mets manager, the "Amazing Mets" were World Series 22 champions: Therefore, 2022 HC 1029/DI 140 2 1 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives 2 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, 3 the Senate concurring: 4 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the 5 Indiana Department of Transportation to rename the bridge on 6 I-69 over the East Fork of the White River the "Gil Hodges 7 Memorial Bridge". 8 SECTION 2.
