Bohacek BILL STATUS: As Introduced FIRST SPONSOR: FUNDS AFFECTED:XGENERAL IMPACT: State & Local XDEDICATED FEDERAL Summary of Legislation: This bill provides that a person driving a vehicle who approaches a stationary school bus displaying alternately flashing amber lights must take certain actions to yield the right of way. It provides that under certain conditions, including the display of alternately flashing amber lights, a school bus driver may load or unload students without extending the school bus stop arm. Effective Date: July 1, 2022. Explanation of State Expenditures: Explanation of State Revenues: The bill provides certain instances when a motorist may pass a school bus with an extended stop arm. Under the bill, individuals who violate the allowances for passing a school bus with an extended stop arm would be subject to a Class B infraction. The maximum judgment for a Class B infraction is $1,000, which would be deposited in the state General Fund. However, any additional revenue from the judgment and the associated court fees is likely to be small. Explanation of Local Expenditures: Explanation of Local Revenues: If additional court actions are filed and a judgment is entered, local governments would receive revenue from court fees.
