Summary of Legislation: The bill provides that "The Hoosier State" is designated as the official nickname
of the state of Indiana. It provides that the designation is to recognize and memorialize the legacy of Harry
Hoosier. It makes certain findings in recognizing Harry Hoosier as the namesake of The Hoosier State.
Effective Date:  July 1, 2024.
Explanation of State Expenditures:  “Hoosier State” is a registered trademark held by another entity. The
use of the name “The Hoosier State” could result in trademark infringement actions. Any impact will depend
on how the State of Indiana uses the name and decisions of the trademark owner. The Attorney General
would likely represent the State of Indiana in any legal proceedings.
