1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION congratulating the Fort Wayne
2 Bishop Luers High School girls basketball team on becoming
3 IHSAA 2024 Class 2A state champions.
4 Whereas, On February 24, 2024, the Bishop Luers Knights
5 defeated Brownstown Central 44-36 to win the IHSAA Class 2A
6 state championship at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis;
7 Whereas, The Knights mounted a comeback in the second
8 half to secure their title after being down nine points at
9 halftime;
10 Whereas, They scored 29 points in the second half and shot
11 60 percent from the field;
12 Whereas, The Knights overcame seven lead changes and
13 four ties with a strong nine-point run in the third quarter to

1 build their largest lead at eight points with 26 seconds
2 remaining in the game;
3 Whereas, The Knights set a state record of 10 state finals
4 appearances, and they tied the record of seven state
5 championships since 1999;
6 Whereas, This was their first state finals appearance since
7 2011 when they also defeated Brownstown Central; and
8 Whereas, The Knights showed their passion for basketball
9 and determination to win by refusing to give up after being
10 down at halftime, and they are champions because of it:
11 Therefore,
12 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
13 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
14 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
15 congratulates the Bishop Luers High School girls basketball
16 team for winning the IHSAA 2024 Class 2A state
17 championship.
18 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
19 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to State
20 Representative Phil GiaQuinta for distribution.
