Niezgodski BILL STATUS: As Introduced FIRST SPONSOR: FUNDS AFFECTED: GENERAL IMPACT: Local DEDICATED FEDERAL Summary of Legislation: This bill provides that school corporations and charter schools shall require all applicants for employment and school employees who will have direct, ongoing contact with children within the scope of the applicant's or school employee's employment to attend training concerning recognition of the signs and symptoms of seizures and the appropriate steps to be taken to respond to these symptoms. Effective Date: July 1, 2024. Explanation of State Expenditures: Explanation of State Revenues: Explanation of Local Expenditures: Beginning in FY 2025, certain school employees are required to have seizure training consistent with the training programs and guidelines developed by the Epilepsy Foundation of America or a successor organization. The training developed by the Epilepsy Foundation is available at no cost. However, if schools were to decide to acquire training from another entity, they would have to fund the cost, if any, out of their existing budget.
