Brown L BILL STATUS: As Introduced FIRST SPONSOR: FUNDS AFFECTED: GENERAL IMPACT: Local DEDICATED FEDERAL Summary of Legislation: The bill requires a unit of local government to accept the Indiana Department of Administration's (DOA) certification of: (1) a minority business enterprise; (2) a women's business enterprise; and (3) a veteran owned small business; as evidence that a business entity is eligible to participate in the unit of local government's initiatives and programs related to the business entity's certification. Effective Date: July 1, 2024. Explanation of State Expenditures: Explanation of State Revenues: Explanation of Local Expenditures: The bill requires units of local government to accept certification for certain businesses from the DOA. Certification from DOA gives business eligibility to participate in public initiatives/strategies or programs specifically geared to the mentioned businesses. The bill could increase the number of businesses allowed to participate which could increase workload for units of local government. The bill’s requirements are within routine administrative functions and should be able to be implemented with no additional appropriations, assuming near customary agency staffing and resource levels.
