BROWN L, CHARBONNEAU , read first time and referred to Committee on 2024 RC 1525/DI JC Introduced Second Regular Session 123rd General Assembly (2024) SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION No. _____ 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing the 10th 2 National Eucharistic Congress. 3 Whereas, The first Eucharistic Congress, held in Lille, 4 France, in 1881, was international in scope and launched a 5 movement of Eucharistic Congresses worldwide, including 6 many held in the United States from 1895 until 1941, which 7 united clergy and laity everywhere in worship; 8 Whereas, World War II disrupted plans for congresses the 9 world over and although International Congresses resumed in 10 1952, a National Congress has not been held in the United 11 States since 1941; 12 Whereas, The 10th National Eucharistic Congress (the 13 "Congress") will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana, beginning on 14 July 17, 2024, and will mark the first National Eucharistic 15 Congress in the United States in 83 years; 16 Whereas, Indianapolis was chosen as the host location for 17 the Congress due to its ideal location, first-rate amenities, and 18 peerless Hoosier hospitality; 19 Whereas, The Congress seeks to fulfill the vision of the 20 Eucharistic Revival, started in 2022, to rekindle a living faith 21 in the hearts of Catholics across America, with up to 80,000 22 attendees expected to gather in Indianapolis over the course of 23 five days; 24 Whereas, The Congress will begin with the convergence of 2024 RC 1525/DI JC 2 1 four pilgrimage routes in Indianapolis from their origins in San 2 Francisco, California, Brownsville, Texas, New Haven, 3 Connecticut, and Lake Itasca, Minnesota; 4 Whereas, The Congress will feature breakout, impact, and 5 revival sessions organized with an array of themes, tailored to 6 various audiences, and featuring leading speakers from around 7 the globe; and 8 Whereas, It is fitting for the Indiana General Assembly to 9 recognize the honor of the State of Indiana in hosting this 10 historic gathering: Therefore, 11 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly 12 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives 13 concurring: 14 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly 15 recognizes the 10th National Eucharistic Congress. 16 SECTION 2.
