SENATE RESOLUTION ____
MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1 A SENATE RESOLUTION celebrating the Town of
2 Mooresville, Indiana, on its 200th Anniversary.
3 Whereas, In 1824, North Carolina Quaker Samuel Moore
4 laid out plans for land he purchased the year prior for $2.00,
5 officially founding the Town of Mooresville, Indiana;
6 Whereas, Mooresville, Indiana, is located in a delta
7 between the east and west forks of White Lick Creek in Brown
8 Township within Morgan County and has grown from a
9 population of 200 in 1831, to being considered home to
10 approximately 9,411 residents today;
11 Whereas, Mooresville is known as a vibrant community
12 with historical charm, beautiful natural surroundings, and
13 renowned local cuisine;
14 Whereas, In 1966, Mooresville adopted the slogan "Home
15 of the State Flag" in honor of renowned local artist and water
16 colorist Paul Hadley, whose design was selected out of 200
17 proposals during the State's 1916 Centennial Celebration to
18 become the Indiana State Banner, now known as the State Flag;

1 Whereas, The people of Mooresville boast a strong
2 community spirit, with residents coming together for events
3 such as the annual Old Settlers Picnic & Fair, the yearly
4 Victorian Christmas Celebration, and the seasonal Apple
5 Festival & Craft Fair; and
6 Whereas, In 2024, the residents of Mooresville will
7 celebrate the town's 200th Anniversary, and it is fitting for the
8 Indiana Senate to honor Mooresville's history, people, and
9 contributions to the Hoosier State: Therefore,
10 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
11 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
12 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate celebrates the Town
13 of Mooresville, Indiana, on its 200th Anniversary.
14 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
15 to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Town of
16 Mooresville, Indiana.
