A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
criminal law and procedure.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
1 SECTION 1. IC 32-28-16 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE
2 AS A NEW CHAPTER TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE
3 JULY 1, 2025]:
4 Chapter 16. False Liens
5 Sec. 1. A person who, knowing or having reason to know that a
6 lien or other encumbrance:
7 (1) is false; or
8 (2) contains a material misrepresentation;
9 files the lien or other encumbrance against property owned by
10 another person commits malicious interference with property, a
11 Level 6 felony.
12 SECTION 2. IC 35-52-32-1.5 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA
13 CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS
14 [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2025]: Sec. 1.5. IC 32-28-16-1 defines a crime
15 concerning liens.
