Summary of Legislation: This bill makes an appropriation to the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) for
the purpose of expanding the Produce Rx Pilot Grant Program.
Effective Date:  July 1, 2025.
Explanation of State Expenditures:  The bill appropriates $2 M from the state General Fund to the IDOH
Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity (DNPA) for the FY 2026-FY 2027 biennium. 
Additional Information: The Indiana Department of Health (IDOH), Division of Nutrition and Physical
Activity (DNPA) provided grants to providers to prescribe produce to patients living with diet related
conditions, or COVID-19 recovery as the Produce Rx Pilot Grant Program. In 2021, IDOH received a
COVID-19 Health Disparities grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), some of
which went to DNPA to support 13 Produce Rx projects. A fact sheet from IDOH cites that all funds for the 
Produce Rx Pilot have been allocated and the program concluded in May of 2024.

Explanation of Local Revenues: Local health departments or entities that apply or receive grants from the
expanded program could see increased grant revenue related to Produce Rx program  activities. The grants
must support patients with an identified chronic disease by providing them with nutrition education and/or
fresh produce.
