Goss-Reaves BILL STATUS: As Introduced FIRST SPONSOR: FUNDS AFFECTED: GENERAL IMPACT: State & Local XDEDICATED FEDERAL Summary of Legislation: This bill establishes the Space Science and Technology Grant Program to provide grants to eligible entities to develop and implement high quality, innovative educational opportunities in schools, with a focus in atmospheric and outer space exploration. The bill provides a procedure for eligible entities to apply to the Department of Education (DOE) to receive a grant. It establishes the Space Science and Technology Fund. It also provides that DOE shall develop criteria to award grants to eligible entities. Effective Date: July 1, 2025. Explanation of State Expenditures: The bill establishes the Space Science and Technology Grant Program in FY 2026. The program will provide grants from the Space Science and Technology Fund to certain entities that partner with schools. Expenditures will increase dependent on appropriations. The DOE will also experience a workload increase to administer the program. Explanation of State Revenues: Explanation of Local Expenditures: Public schools that partner with entities that receive a grant from the Space Science and Technology Grant Program may experience a workload increase. The impact will depend on appropriations to the program and the partnership agreement between the public school and the entity.
