Buck FUNDS AFFECTED:XGENERAL IMPACT: State DEDICATED FEDERAL Summary of Legislation: This bill requires a teacher's electronic mail address to be used for sending the annual summary of a teacher's rights and protections. It also removes the requirement that the Attorney General publish an annual newspaper notice regarding unclaimed property held by the Attorney General with a value of more than $100. Effective Date: July 1, 2025. Explanation of State Expenditures: Annual Summary of Teacher's Rights and Protections: The bill could reduce state expenditures and the administrative workload for the Office of the Attorney General (AG). Unclaimed Property Act: The bill removes the annual newspaper publishing requirement for unclaimed property held by the AG. As a result, it could reduce the administrative workload of the AG to give notice regarding unclaimed property. Additional Information - Under current law, not later than July 30 of each year, the AG, in consultation with the Indiana Education Employment Relations Board (IEERB) established in IC 20-29-3-1, shall draft and disseminate a letter by first class mail to the residences of teachers, providing a summary of their protections under state and federal law, including their rights and protections relating to performance evaluations under IC 20-28-11.5.
