Summers BILL STATUS: As Introduced FIRST SPONSOR: FUNDS AFFECTED:XGENERAL IMPACT: State XDEDICATED FEDERAL Summary of Legislation: The bill requires the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) to develop a program to award grants to certain community based programs to reduce the prevalence of maternal mortality in Indiana. The bill requires the IDOH to collaborate with the Statewide Maternal Mortality Review Committee in developing the program. The bill provides that the DOH shall establish workgroups to assist in developing the program. It allows the IDOH to adopt rules to administer the program. Effective Date: July 1, 2025. Explanation of State Expenditures: Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) The bill increases workload at the IDOH to develop a grant program in collaboration with the Statewide Maternal Mortality Review Committee. The bill makes no appropriation and it is silent regarding any deadlines for implementation of the new grant program. The IDOH may need to hire an additional Grant Coordinator. Based on similar positions within the IDOH, employing a new Grant Coordinator is expected to cost between $85,000 and $95,000 per year, inclusive of salary and benefits.
