Synopsis: Indiana welcome signs. Requires the Indiana department of
transportation to include the state motto or slogan, "The Crossroads of
America", or the variation "Crossroads of America", on the face of a
welcome sign installed at an entry point to Indiana on an interstate, a
highway, a street, or a road.
Effective: July 1, 2025.

HOUSE BILL No. 1271
A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
transportation.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
1 SECTION 1. IC 8-23-23-5 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE
2 AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY
3 1, 2025]: Sec. 5. If the department installs a welcome sign at an
4 entry point to Indiana on an interstate, a highway, a street, or a
5 road, the department must include the state motto or slogan
6 adopted by the general assembly in H.C.R. 6-1937, "The
7 Crossroads of America", or the variation, "Crossroads of
8 America", on the face of the sign.
