HOUSE BILL No. 1348 A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning education. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana: 1 SECTION 1. IC 20-32-2-3, AS AMENDED BY P.L.5-2024, 2 SECTION 12, IS AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE 3 JULY 1, 2025]: Sec. 3. Except as provided in IC 20-32-8.5-0.7 and 4 IC 20-32-4-20, "student" means an individual who is enrolled in: 5 (1) a public school; 6 (2) a state accredited nonpublic school; or 7 (3) another nonpublic school that has requested and received from 8 the state board specific approval of the school's educational 9 program. 10 SECTION 2. IC 20-32-4-20 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE 11 AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 12 1, 2025]: Sec. 20. (a) This section applies to a nonaccredited 13 nonpublic school. 14 (b) As used in this section, "diploma" means a high school 15 diploma. 16 (c) As used in this section, "student" means an individual 17 enrolled in a school described in subsection (a). HB 1348—LS 7429/DI 143 2 1 (d) A diploma or credential issued by a person who administers 2 a school described in subsection (a) is legally sufficient to 3 demonstrate that the recipient of the diploma or credential has met 4 the requirements to complete high school. 5 (e) A state or local agency or institution of higher education in 6 Indiana may not reject or otherwise treat a person differently 7 based solely on a diploma or credential that is issued by a school 8 described in subsection (a). 9 (f) A person who administers a school described in subsection 10 (a) has the authority to execute any document required by law, 11 rule, regulation, or policy to provide evidence regarding: 12 (1) the enrollment of a child in an educational program 13 provided by a school described in subsection (a); 14 (2) the student's full-time or part-time status; 15 (3) the student's grades; 16 (4) the student's transcript; or 17 (5) any other required educational information.
