Hamilton BILL STATUS: As Introduced FIRST SPONSOR: FUNDS AFFECTED: GENERAL IMPACT: State XDEDICATED FEDERAL Summary of Legislation: The bill provides that the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) may not charge an individual traveling on foot, a bicycle, or horseback an admission fee for a state park or recreation area. Effective Date: July 1, 2025. Explanation of State Expenditures: The bill would reduce revenue to the State Parks and Reservoirs Special Revenue Fund by about $50,000 annually. The reduction in revenue could be higher if individuals that currently enter the park in vehicles instead enter on foot or bicycle to avoid the admission fee. Additional Information: Individuals entering on foot, bicycle, or horseback would avoid the $2 entry fee. However, those on a bicycle that use mountain bike trails above beginner level and those on horseback would still need to pay a $5 daily fee or $20 annual fee for an off-road cycling permit or horse tag.
