Pfaff BILL STATUS: As Introduced FIRST SPONSOR: FUNDS AFFECTED:XGENERAL IMPACT: State & Local XDEDICATED FEDERAL Summary of Legislation: This bill establishes the School Counselor Grant Fund. The bill provides that the Department of Education may award eligible school corporations and charter schools grants in an amount determined by the department for the employment of school counselors. It makes an appropriation for the state biennium to the School Counselor Grant Fund. Effective Date: July 1, 2025. Explanation of State Expenditures: The bill appropriates $15 M during the FY 2026-FY 2027 biennium to the School Counselor Grant Fund established in the bill. The Department of Education (DOE) may provide grants from the School Counselor Grant Fund to lower the school counselor to student ratio at public schools. DOE and the State Board of Education will also experience workload increases to administer the program.
