HOUSE BILL No. 1619 A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning natural and cultural resources. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana: 1 SECTION 1. IC 14-8-2-296.5 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA 2 CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS 3 [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2025]: Sec. 296.5. "Venison", for purposes of 4 IC 14-22-6-8.5, has the meaning set forth in IC 14-22-6-8.5. 5 SECTION 2. IC 14-22-6-8.5 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE 6 AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 7 1, 2025]: Sec. 8.5. (a) As used in this section, "venison" means meat 8 from a deer. 9 (b) A person may sell venison if the following requirements are 10 met: 11 (1) The person sells venison only from a deer legally taken in 12 Indiana. 13 (2) The deer is processed at a commercial deer processing 14 facility in Indiana. 15 (3) The venison's packaging is labeled with the following 16 information: 17 (A) The name and address of the producer of the food 2025 IN 1619—LS 7624/DI 150 2 1 product. 2 (B) The common or usual name of the food product. 3 (C) The ingredients of the food product, in descending 4 order by predominance by weight. 5 (D) The net weight or volume of the food product by 6 standard measure or numerical count. 7 (E) The date on which the food product was processed. 8 (4) Following the processing of the deer, the: 9 (A) packaging containing the venison is not altered or 10 disturbed; and 11 (B) food product containing the venison is kept 12 refrigerated through the point of sale and delivery to the 13 consumer. 14 (5) Any additional rules adopted by the department. 15 (c) Any person may prepare and serve venison for human 16 consumption if the venison is purchased from a person who 17 complies with this section. 18 (d) The department shall adopt rules under IC 4-22-2 to 19 implement this section. 2025 IN 1619—LS 7624/DI 150
