Smaltz BILL STATUS: As Introduced FIRST SPONSOR: FUNDS AFFECTED:XGENERAL IMPACT: State DEDICATED FEDERAL Summary of Legislation: The bill requires a health care entity that is involved in a merger or acquisition to disclose additional information. The bill allows the Office of the Attorney General to assess a health care entity with a civil penalty for noncompliance with the merger and acquisition notice. Effective Date: July 1, 2025. Explanation of State Expenditures: The Attorney General (AG) would have more information to review and assess on future disclosures received from health care entities. The AG likely has the requisite staff and resources to review the additional information. Explanation of State Revenues: General Fund revenues may increase if more civil penalties are assessed for violations of the disclosure of the information required by the Attorney General. The penalty assessed could not exceed $5,000 per day per violation and not to exceed a total $2 M per violation.
