Baird BILL STATUS: As Introduced FIRST SPONSOR: FUNDS AFFECTED:XGENERAL IMPACT: State XDEDICATED FEDERAL Summary of Legislation: This bill establishes the Ethics Implementation Fund for the purpose of providing grants to course providers that offer ethics training courses for teachers. This bill charges the Department of Education (DOE) with administering the fund. It also requires the DOE to create authorization and approval processes. The bill requires the DOE to create guidelines to provide professional development credit to teachers who have successfully completed an ethics training course. The bill makes an appropriation. Effective Date: July 1, 2025. Explanation of State Expenditures: The bill establishes the Ethics Implementation Fund and, beginning in FY 2026, makes a $250,000 annual appropriation to the fund from the General Fund. The appropriation would be used to provide grants to course providers to provide ethics training courses for teachers. The bill’s requirements would be a minor workload increase for DOE that would be completed with existing staff and resources.
