RESOLUTION No. ____
1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Nikki
2 Woodson upon her retirement from Superintendent for
3 Washington Township Schools.
4 Whereas, Dr. Nikki Woodson graduated from Ball State
5 University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary &
6 Special Education; 
7 Whereas, Through her academic studies, Dr. Nikki Woodson
8 earned a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from
9 Butler University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational
10 Administration & Curriculum/Instruction from Purdue
11 University; 
12 Whereas, Dr. Woodson's appointment as Superintendent for
13 Washington Township Schools made her the first
14 African-American female superintendent in Marion County and
15 one of the youngest in the state of Indiana; 
16 Whereas, Prior to her superintendent appointment, Dr.
17 Woodson served in several capacities in education including
18 teacher, special education program manager, assistant
19 principal, principal, director of communications, director of
20 staff development, director of continuous improvement, and
21 assistant superintendent, all in large urban public school
22 districts in the Indianapolis area; 
23 Whereas, Among her numerous honors, Dr. Woodson was
24 named The Graduate of the Last Decade (G.O.L.D.) from Ball
25 State University as well as being honored for Outstanding
26 Alumni Achievement;

1 Whereas, Dr. Woodson was named a distinguished Purdue
2 University Fellow; 
3 Whereas, With the support of the locally elected Washington
4 Township School Board, Dr. Woodson, along with the district's
5 leadership team, was able to implement a successful supplier
6 diversity program during the extensive construction season in
7 the district, partnering with firms owned by women, minorities,
8 veterans, and the physically challenged and producing over
9 $100 million in contracts with those companies; 
10 Whereas, Dr. Woodson was given the state honor of
11 International Educator of the Year by Global Indiana and
12 recognized for her Achievement in Education by the Center for
13 Leadership Development, and she was chosen as a Hoosier
14 Fellow through the Tobias Executive Leadership program, and
15 the American Association of School Administrators awarded
16 her the Women in School Leadership Award; 
17 Whereas, Dr. Woodson has served her community as a board
18 member of the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Home, Young
19 Audiences of Indiana, IUPUI Collegiate Board of Advisors,
20 IHSAA Foundation, the national board of Challenge Day, and
21 the International Baccalaureate's Heads Council, Regional 
22 Council, and Board of Governors; 
23 Whereas, President Obama invited her to a day at the White
24 House in 2014 as one of 100 superintendents chosen
25 nationwide to the first ever Future Ready White House Summit; 
26 Whereas, Dr. Woodson was the honored recipient of the 2024
27 Lifetime Achievement Award in Education at the prestigious 8th
28 Annual Black Excellence in Education Awards by InnoPower
29 Minority Business Week; and
30 Whereas, Dr. Nikki Woodson leaves behind a significant
31 legacy at Washington Township Schools where she
32 spearheaded two major referenda resulting in overwhelming
33 community support for the renovation of six elementary
34 schools, two middle schools, North Central High School, the J.
35 Everett Light Career Center, and the new construction of two
36 elementary schools, one middle school, the Paul Loggan
37 Fieldhouse, and the Early Learning Center, ensuring equitable
38 learning spaces for all for generations to come: Therefore,

1 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
2 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
3 the Senate concurring:
4 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly honors Dr.
5 Nikki Woodson upon her retirement from Superintendent of
6 Washington Township Schools and wishes her the best as she
7 enters a new stage of life.
8 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
9 Representatives shall transmit a copy of this resolution to State
10 Representative Carey Hamilton for distribution.
