Randolph Lonnie M BILL STATUS: As Introduced FIRST SPONSOR: FUNDS AFFECTED:XGENERAL IMPACT: State & Local XDEDICATED XFEDERAL Summary of Legislation: The bill provides that an employer may not discriminate against an employee with respect to compensation and benefits from the employer or terms and conditions of employment based on: (1) the employee's filing of a petition for a protective order, whether or not the protective order has been issued; or (2) the actions of an individual against whom the employee has filed a protective order. Effective Date: July 1, 2025. Explanation of State Expenditures: This bill has the potential to impact all agencies as employers, thus impacting all funds that provide operating funds to agency staff. The impact is anticipated to be minor. The Department of Labor (DOL) would be responsible for enforcing the bill’s provisions. However, no penalty is established for noncompliant employers. If the bill results in added complaints, workload at the DOL could increase. Assuming near customary agency staffing and resource levels, the bill would likely be able to be implemented with no additional appropriations.
