Hunley BILL STATUS: As Introduced FIRST SPONSOR: FUNDS AFFECTED: GENERAL IMPACT: No Fiscal Impact DEDICATED FEDERAL Summary of Legislation: This bill requires the Department of Education to provide technical assistance to a school corporation that is eligible to participate in and elects to participate in the federal Community Eligibility Provision to provide free school breakfast and lunch to all students. Effective Date: July 1, 2025. Explanation of State Expenditures: The Department of Education currently provides technical assistance to eligible schools who wish to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). LSA estimates that 215 school corporations are eligible to participate in CEP but are currently not participating, and between 4 and 7 school corporations would financially benefit from participating.
