BILL STATUS: As Introduced FIRST SPONSOR: FUNDS AFFECTED:XGENERAL IMPACT: State DEDICATED FEDERAL Summary of Legislation: The bill establishes the Ballot Tracking Commission to review data concerning technology to track an absentee ballot using real-time tracking information. It provides that the Commission expires June 30, 2026. Effective Date: July 1, 2025. Explanation of State Expenditures: Commission Members– Members of the Commission that are not state employees would be allowed to receive per diem, mileage, and travel allowances paid to individuals that serve as legislative or lay members of an interim study committee established by the Legislative Council. Members that are state employees but are not members of the General Assembly would receive travel expense and expenses actually incurred in connection with the member’s service provided in the state policies and procedures established by the Indiana Department of Administration and approved by the State Budget Agency. The compensation expenditures for these members would be covered by appropriations made to the Governor. Legislative members of the Commission would receive the same per diem, mileage, and travel expenses that a legislative member of an interim study committee established by the Legislative Council would receive for their service. The compensation for these members would be paid from appropriations to the Legislative Council or Legislative Services Agency. Commission Staff– The bill requires the Governor to designate staff for the Commission, which would increase the Governor’s staff’s workload.
