Dear Representative Williams:
SUBJECT: Fiscal Note for HB 2271 by Representative Johnson
In accordance with KSA 75-3715a, the following fiscal note concerning HB 2271 is
respectfully submitted to your committee.
HB 2271 would authorize any student whose parent or guardian is employed by a school
district to enroll in that school district, regardless of residence. The bill would exempt these
students from a school district’s open-seat lottery process for non-resident students who wish to
attend school in a district.
The enactment of HB 2271 would have no fiscal effect on state aid to school districts. Any
fiscal effect on school districts would be negligible, according to the Department of Education.
