SESSION OF 2023 SUPPLEMENTAL NOTE ON HOUSE BILL NO. 2285 As Amended by Senate Committee on Financial Institutions and Insurance Brief* HB 2285, as amended, would clarify the definition of “insurance company” and make other technical corrections and reconciling changes in the Insurance Code. The bill would be in effect upon publication in the Kansas Register. Background The bill was introduced by the House Committee on Insurance at the request of a representative of the Kansas Insurance Department (Department). [Note: A companion bill, SB 119, has been introduced in the Senate.] House Committee on Insurance In the House Committee hearing, a representative of the Department provided proponent testimony, stating the bill provides for a statutory cleanup to Chapter 40 of the Kansas Statutes Annotated as references to certain statute numbers and subsections have either been moved or repealed over recent years. The Department representative indicated the bill would reconcile those differences and references.
