SUBJECT: Fiscal Note for SB 72 by Senate Committee on Judiciary
In accordance with KSA 75-3715a, the following fiscal note concerning SB 72 is
respectfully submitted to your committee.
SB 72 would add a language conduit rule exception regarding hearsay in civil proceedings.
The new exception would apply to a party’s statement to a translator without the translator’s
testimony, unless the judge found the translator had a motive to mislead or distort the statement or
that the translation was substantially inaccurate.
The Office of Judicial Administration indicates enactment of the bill would have a
negligible fiscal effect on the operations of the Judicial Branch.
