Dear Representative Howerton:

SUBJECT: Fiscal Note for HB 2076 by House Committee on Child Welfare and Foster
Care

In accordance with KSA 75-3715a, the following fiscal note concerning HB 2076 is
respectfully submitted to your committee.

HB 2076 would revise the Kansas Code for Care of Children. The bill would reduce the
number of days (from 60 to 45) that a custodian may be authorized by the court to place a child,
who is in the custody of the Secretary for Children and Families, in a secure facility. The bill
would also eliminate the option for a court to extend the period of authorization for a custodian to
place a child in custody of the Department in a secure facility.

The Department for Children and Families indicates that enactment of HB 2076 would
have no fiscal effect on the agency. The Office of Judicial Administration indicates that enactment
of HB 2076 would have a negligible fiscal effect on the Judiciary.

 	Sincerely,

 	Adam C. Proffitt
 	Director of the Budget
