SESSION OF 2025 SUPPLEMENTAL NOTE ON HOUSE BILL NO. 2256 As Recommended by House Committee on Veterans and Military Brief* HB 2256 would create the Order of the Sunflower (Order). The Order would be awarded to military spouses who are deemed to have made a significant impact on their unit command, military installation, community, or the State. The Governor would award the Order based on submissions made to the Governor’s Office through the Office of Constituent Services webpage on the Governor’s website. Recommendations for the Order would be required to include dates of service, significant accomplishments, and recommendations from the unit command. Background The bill was introduced by the House Committee on Veterans and Military at the request of Representative Butler. House Committee on Veterans and Military In the House Committee hearing, proponent testimony was provided by Representative Butler and a representative of the Governor’s Military Council. The proponents generally stated the bill would recognize important members of Kansas military communities and build morale in those communities and households.
