AN ACT concerning the state board of education; increasing compensation 
of members of the board; establishing a daily rate of compensation that 
corresponds to the daily rate of compensation for services rendered by 
members of the legislature while in session; amending K.S.A. 72-253 
and repealing the existing section.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
Section 1. K.S.A. 72-253 is hereby amended to read as follows: 72-
253. (a) The state board of education may authorize members thereof to 
attend in-state meetings for participation in matters of educational interest 
to the state of Kansas, and when attending a meeting so authorized, 
members shall receive compensation and travel expenses and subsistence 
expenses or allowances as provided in K.S.A. 75-3212, and amendments 
thereto, for members of the legislature. Whenever under any provision of 
law, a member of the state board of education is authorized to attend an 
out-of-state meeting, or whenever the state board of education authorizes 
one of its members to attend an out-of-state meeting for participation in 
matters of educational interest to the state of Kansas such members, when 
attending a meeting so authorized, shall receive compensation and travel 
expenses and subsistence expenses as provided in K.S.A. 75-3212, and 
amendments thereto, for members of the legislature.
(b) Notwithstanding the provisions of K.S.A. 46-137a and 75-3212, 
and amendments thereto, when attending any such in-state or out-of-state 
meeting authorized in accordance with subsection (a), members of the 
state board of education shall receive compensation in an amount that 
corresponds to the daily rate of compensation for services rendered by 
members of the legislature while in session. For purposes of this section, 
such daily rate of compensation for members of the state board shall be 
determined as follows:
(1) Determine the base annual salary of members of the legislature 
established by the legislative compensation commission pursuant to K.S.A. 
46-3102, and amendments thereto, including any salary indexing 
adjustments made to such base annual salary, and multiply such amount 
by 0.6003; and
(2) divide the amount determined pursuant to paragraph (1) by 90.

Sec. 2. K.S.A. 72-253 is hereby repealed.
Sec. 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its 
publication in the statute book.
