The Honorable Mike Petersen, Chairperson
Senate Committee on Transportation

Topeka, Kansas 66612

Dear Senator Petersen:

SUBJECT: Fiscal Note for SB 9 by Senate Committee on Transportation

In accordance with KSA 75-3715a, the following fiscal note concerning SB 9 is
respectfully submitted to your committee.

SB 9 would extend the amount of time required for reports to be filed with the State
Historical Society for certain United States public land surveys from 30 days to 90 days. Current
law requires a land surveyor to file a reference report with the county surveyor and if there is no
county surveyor, then the report must be filed with the county engineer. If there is no county
engineer, then the report is filed with the office of the county road department. The bill would
allow the report to be filed with the office of the county road department or in a county office
designated by the county commission if there is no county surveyor or county engineer.

The State Historical Society indicates enactment of the bill would not have a fiscal effect
on agency operations. The Kansas Association of Counties indicates enactment of the bill would
not have a fiscal effect on Kansas counties.

 	Sincerely,

 	Adam C. Proffitt
 	Director of the Budget
