UNOFFICIAL COPY 22 RS BR 1529 Page 1 of 3 XXXX Jacketed AN ACT relating to land surveyor licensure. 1 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 2 ď˘Section 1. KRS 322.045 is amended to read as follows: 3 (1) A person shall qualify for licensure as a professional land surveyor if he or she has: 4 (a) Passed the Fundamentals of Land Surveying Examination and is thereby 5 designated a land surveyor in training according to the conditions set forth in 6 either paragraph (c) of this subsection or KRS 322.047(1)(a); 7 (b) Passed the Principles and Practice of Land Surveying Examination; and 8 (c) Met one (1) of the following requirements set out in this paragraph: 9 1. Graduation from a board-approved program of four (4) years or more in 10 land surveying from a college or university and not less than three (3) 11 years of progressive experience in land surveying under the direct 12 supervision of a practicing professional land surveyor. The experience 13 shall be of a grade and character to indicate to the board that the 14 applicant is competent to practice land surveying. Applicants shall be 15 eligible to take the Fundamentals of Land Surveying Examination during 16 the final year of the program; 17 2. Graduation from a program of four (4) years or more in other than land 18 surveying from a college or university of recognized standing, 19 completion of a twenty-four (24) semester credit hour core curriculum in 20 land surveying, and not less than four (4) years of progressive 21 experience in land surveying under the direct supervision of a practicing 22 professional land surveyor. The experience shall be of a grade and 23 character to indicate to the board that the applicant is competent to 24 practice land surveying; 25 a. The core curriculum in land surveying may be completed as part of 26 the four (4) year program or may be taken in addition to that 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 22 RS BR 1529 Page 2 of 3 XXXX Jacketed program; and 1 b. Applicants shall be eligible to take the Fundamentals of Land 2 Surveying Examination upon completion of the core curriculum in 3 land surveying or during the final year in the program if twelve 4 (12) hours or more of the core curriculum in land surveying have 5 been completed;[ or] 6 3. Graduation from a two (2) year board-approved program in land 7 surveying and not less than six (6) years of progressive experience in 8 land surveying with four (4) of the six (6) years under the direct 9 supervision of a practicing professional land surveyor. The experience 10 shall be of a grade and character to indicate to the board that the 11 applicant is competent to practice land surveying. Applicants shall be 12 eligible to take the: 13 a. Fundamentals of Land Surveying Examination upon completion 14 of two (2) years of progressive experience in land surveying; and 15 b. Principles and Practice of Land Surveying Examination upon 16 completion of six (6) years of progressive experience in land 17 surveying; or 18 4. Graduation from a civil, mining, or agricultural engineering program of 19 four (4) years or more accredited by the Engineering Accreditation 20 Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and 21 Technology or any engineering program deemed equivalent by the 22 board, completion of twelve (12) semester credit hours of the core 23 curriculum in land surveying referenced in subparagraph 2. of this 24 paragraph, and not less than four (4) years of progressive experience in 25 land surveying under the direct supervision of a practicing professional 26 land surveyor. The experience shall be of a grade and character to 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 22 RS BR 1529 Page 3 of 3 XXXX Jacketed indicate to the board that the applicant is competent to practice land 1 surveying; 2 a. The twelve (12) hours of the core curriculum in land surveying 3 may be completed as part of the engineering program or may be 4 taken in addition to that program; and 5 b. Applicants shall be eligible to take the Fundamentals of Land 6 Surveying Examination upon graduation from the engineering 7 program or during the final year in the program if twelve (12) 8 hours of the core curriculum in land surveying have been 9 completed. 10 (2) Any person having the necessary qualifications prescribed in subsection (1) of this 11 section or any applicable qualifications prescribed in KRS 322.047(1)(a) shall be 12 eligible to apply for licensure, even if the applicant is not practicing the profession 13 at the time of application. 14 [(3) The board shall promulgate administrative regulations to establish requirements for 15 consideration of experience gained prior to graduation from programs as described 16 in subsection (1)(c)1., 2., and 3. of this section, and for the surveying core 17 curriculum described in subsection (1)(c)2. and 3. of this section]. 18
