A RESOLUTION declaring March 2022 as National Colorectal Cancer Awareness 1
Month and recognizing March 4, 2022, as Dress in Blue Day. 2
WHEREAS, the Colon Cancer Screening and Prevention Program is one of the 3
Commonwealth's most successful public health programs; and 4
WHEREAS, in partnership with the Kentucky General Assembly, screening rates 5
have risen from 34.7 percent to 69.8 percent, improving more than any other state and 6
moving Kentucky's ranking from 49th to 20th; and 7
WHEREAS, as screening rates have more than doubled, colorectal cancer incidence 8
rates and mortality rates have declined. This decrease in incidence means that every year, 9
30 percent fewer Kentuckians are diagnosed with colon cancer; and 10
WHEREAS, the Colon Cancer Screening and Prevention Program and the 11
collective efforts of multiple partners working together are proving to be life-saving for 12
Kentuckians; and 13
WHEREAS, the Colorectal Cancer Alliance recognizes March as National 14
Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month to spread awareness of this disease and the 15
importance of screening; and 16
WHEREAS, Dress in Blue Day was launched in 2009 to bring awareness and 17
national attention to colon cancer and honor those impacted by colorectal cancer; and 18
WHEREAS, 2022 marks the 14th annual Dress in Blue Day. This body honors 19
those volunteers, advocates, and survivors who have worked so diligently to make this 20
year's Dress in Blue Day a success; 21
