A RESOLUTION recognizing February 15, 2022, as Angelman Syndrome 1 
Awareness Day. 2 
WHEREAS, Angelman syndrome is a rare, neurogenetic disorder that affects 3 
chromosome 15, resulting in intellectual and developmental delay; and 4 
WHEREAS, about 1 in 20,000 people in the United States are affected by 5 
Angelman syndrome; and 6 
WHEREAS, Angelman syndrome is a complex genetic disorder that primarily 7 
affects the nervous system; and 8 
WHEREAS, February is International Rare Disease Month; and 9 
WHEREAS, the purpose of Angelman Syndrome Awareness Day is to raise 10 
awareness of this condition, mobilize people to action, encourage fundraising, promote 11 
research and educational resources, and remember those affected with Angelman 12 
syndrome; and 13 
WHEREAS, with early identification and treatment, medical, sleep, seizure, and 14 
developmental issues associated with Angelman syndrome may be managed; and 15 
WHEREAS, the Angelman Syndrome Foundation provides advocacy, education, 16 
support, and access to resources for parents and researchers around the world; 17 
NOW, THEREFORE, 18 
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the 19 
Commonwealth of Kentucky: 20 
Section 1.   The House of Representatives hereby recognizes February 15, 2022, 21 
as Angelman Syndrome Awareness Day. 22 
Section 2.   The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a 23 
copy of this Resolution to Representative Josh Bray. 24
