UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 189 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 11/16/2022 1:48 PM Jacketed A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the Representative John "Bam" Carney 1 Memorial Highway in Taylor County. 2 WHEREAS, John Mitchel Owen "Bam" Carney, son of June Gabehart Carney and 3 the late Ronnie "Don" Carney, was born September 30, 1969, in Taylor County, 4 Kentucky; and 5 WHEREAS, Bam Carney was a graduate of Berea College and Eastern Kentucky 6 University; and 7 WHEREAS, Bam Carney was an educator who taught and coached in the Taylor 8 County, Campbellsville Independent, and Washington County School Systems; and 9 WHEREAS, from 2009 to 2021, Bam Carney served the citizens of the 51st District 10 as a member of the House of Representatives of the Kentucky General Assembly; and 11 WHEREAS, an active and involved member with a keen interest in education, Bam 12 Carney served as Chair of the House Education Committee from 2017 until the members 13 tapped him to be House Majority Floor Leader in 2019; and 14 WHEREAS, Bam Carney, a member of 3 Trees Church, had an abiding faith from 15 which he drew strength and inspiration; and 16 WHEREAS, on Saturday, July 17, 2021, Ban Carney passed away after a long 17 illness, leaving family, friends, community, and the Commonwealth devastated by their 18 loss; and 19 WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the many and generous contributions of 20 Representative John "Bam" Carney be memorialized in some tangible way; 21 NOW, THEREFORE, 22 Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 23 Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate the completed portion of 24 the Campbellsville Bypass (Kentucky Route 55), from the intersection with Kentucky 25 Route 201 to the intersection with Kentucky Route 70, as the Representative John "Bam" 26 Carney Memorial Highway, and shall within 30 days of the effective date of this 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 189 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 11/16/2022 1:48 PM Jacketed Resolution, erect appropriate signage denoting this designation. 1 Section 2. Upon its eventual completion, the Transportation Cabinet shall 2 continue the designation of the Representative John "Bam" Carney Memorial Highway on 3 the portion of the Campbellsville Bypass (Kentucky Route 55), from the intersection with 4 Kentucky Route 70 to the intersection with United States Route 68, and shall within 30 5 days of the completion of construction, erect appropriate signage denoting this 6 designation. 7
