A JOINT RESOLUTION designating the Sheriff Cecil "Dude" Cochran Memorial 1 
Highway in Madison County. 2 
WHEREAS, Cecil Cochran, the son of the late Cecil Sr. and Arebell Marcum 3 
Cochran, was born on September 22, 1932, in Madison County at White Station; and 4 
WHEREAS, Cecil Cochran, known to all in Madison County as "Dude," owned 5 
and operated Madison Furniture Company for 28 years alongside his wife, Betsy; he also 6 
operated a lime hauling business; and 7 
WHEREAS, Dude Cochran was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was 8 
well respected throughout Madison County; and 9 
WHEREAS, Dude Cochran served as a Madison County Deputy Sheriff from 1978-10 
1982; and 11 
WHEREAS, in 1982, Dude Cochran was elected Madison County Sheriff, a 12 
position he held until 2007; as the first sheriff elected who could succeed himself, he 13 
became the longest-serving sheriff in Madison County history; and 14 
WHEREAS, Sheriff Cochran was a member of the Kentucky Sheriffs Association 15 
and an ardent supporter of the Kentucky Sheriffs' Boys and Girls Ranch; and 16 
WHEREAS, Cecil Cochran traversed these earthly bounds on March 8, 2019, 17 
leaving behind a loving family and grateful community to mourn their loss and celebrate 18 
the extraordinary life he led; and 19 
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that Cecil "Dude" Cochran's life of service be 20 
tangibly recognized; 21 
NOW, THEREFORE, 22 
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 23 
Section 1.   The Transportation Cabinet shall designate United States Route 25 in 24 
Madison County, from mile point 9.565 to mile point 15.442, as the "Sheriff Cecil 'Dude' 25 
Cochran Memorial Highway" and shall, within 30 days of the effective date of this 26 
Resolution, erect appropriate signs denoting this designation. 27
