UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1070 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 2/17/2023 3:39 PM Jacketed A JOINT RESOLUTION directing the Transportation Cabinet to designate the 1 Officer Travis Hurley Memorial Bridge in Laurel County. 2 WHEREAS, on January 27, 2022, Officer Travis Hurley died from complications 3 of COVID-19 that was contracted in a presumed exposure while on duty; and 4 WHEREAS, Officer Travis Hurley was a twenty-one year veteran of the London 5 City Police Department (LCPD) who retired in 2021 as a lieutenant. He was also a former 6 K-9 handler; and 7 WHEREAS, Officer Travis Hurley later returned to the department as a school 8 resource officer; and 9 WHEREAS, Officer Travis Hurley was described by former LCPD Chief Darrell 10 Kilburn as "always a pleasure to be around" and further stated, "if you were in a bad 11 mood, he would make it better, and if you were in a good mood, he made that better"; and 12 WHEREAS, Officer Travis Hurley was described by current LCPD Chief Chuck 13 Johnson as "an exceptional police officer and a friend to all"; and 14 WHEREAS, as a School Resource Officer, Travis Hurley's strong moral character 15 made him a role model to the students of Laurel County. Former LCPD Chief Darrell 16 Kilburn said that Officer Travis Hurley "served all the schools and went around to all the 17 schools, so most children from all the schools, most faculty from the schools all knew 18 and loved Travis"; and 19 WHEREAS, Officer Travis Hurley was described as wonderful, faithful, and full of 20 love by Detective Stacy Anderkin, who stated "He was a mighty Christian, strong moral 21 character, ethics. He was just about a perfect man. There's nothing anybody can say 22 negative about Travis"; and 23 WHEREAS, Officer Travis Hurley was a member of the First Baptist Church East 24 Bernstadt and he was a dedicated servant to his community who loved his job. He was a 25 friend to all who know him and will be dearly missed; and 26 WHEREAS, Officer Travis Hurley was a dedicated family man who is survived by 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1070 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 2/17/2023 3:39 PM Jacketed his loving wife, Angela; son, Andrew; parents, Jakie and Wilma Ball Hurley; brother, 1 Tharon (Annie); sister, Tiffany; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his 2 passing; and 3 WHEREAS, LCPD Chief Chuck Johnson has expressed support for designating a 4 bridge in honor and memory of Officer Travis Hurley; and 5 WHEREAS, Officer Travis Hurley served his community honorably and it is fitting 6 that his service and sacrifice be honored in some tangible way; 7 NOW, THEREFORE, 8 Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 9 ď˘Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate the bridge on Kentucky 10 Route 80 in Laurel County, over Interstate 75 (Bridge Number 063B00107N), mile point 11 10.684, as the "Officer Travis Hurley Memorial Bridge" and shall, within 30 days of the 12 effective date of this Resolution, erect appropriate signs denoting this designation. 13
