UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1745 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 2/23/2023 2:34 PM Jacketed A RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th anniversary of the National Wild 1 Turkey Federation. 2 WHEREAS, the National Wild Turkey Federation was founded on March 28th, 3 1973, in Edgefield, South Carolina; and 4 WHEREAS, the National Wild Turkey Federation's mission as a nonprofit 5 organization is the conservation of the wild turkey species and the preservation of our 6 hunting heritage; and 7 WHEREAS, the National Wild Turkey Federation is the largest and longest-serving 8 nongovernmental stewardship partner of the United States Department of Agriculture 9 (USDA) Forest Service, conserving habitats on National Forest System lands for more 10 than 40 years, and heavily engaged in the development and implementation of the 11 USDA’s Wildfire Crisis Strategy; and 12 WHEREAS, the National Wild Turkey Federation dedicates much of its time to 13 increasing interest in hunting. The federation has reactivated more than 1.5 million 14 hunters across the globe, and in 2012, with the 10-year-long project Save the 15 Habitat/Save the Hunt, opened public hunting access to over 600,000 acres; and 16 WHEREAS, the National Wild Turkey Federation has membership and chapters 17 spanned across the globe, and has a tradition of commitment to the preservation of 18 critical wildlife habitat, forests, and grasslands across public and private lands, with 22 19 million acres preserved since 1985; and 20 WHEREAS, the National Wild Turkey Federation invested over $8.5 million into 21 research dedicated to keeping healthy current and future wild turkey populations, which 22 has aided the return of the wild turkey from the brink of extinction; and 23 WHEREAS, the National Wild Turkey Federation is commended for its dedication 24 and commitment these past 50 years and in future years; 25 NOW, THEREFORE, 26 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 1745 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 2/23/2023 2:34 PM Jacketed Kentucky: 1 Section 1. The Senate congratulates the National Wild Turkey Federation on the 2 50th anniversary of its founding and commends it for its commitment to the wild turkey 3 species, the hunting heritage, and the preservation of lands across the nation and the 4 world. 5 Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 6 Resolution to Senator Robin Webb for delivery to the National Wild Turkey Federation. 7
