UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 909 Page 1 of 2 XXXX 12/22/2022 1:43 PM Jacketed A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of the 1 honorable Thomas Dale Emberton Sr. 2 WHEREAS, Thomas Dale Emberton Sr. was a native son of this Commonwealth. 3 He was born in Monroe County on July 14, 1932, to John Tom and Ersie Poland 4 Emberton; and 5 WHEREAS, Tom Emberton grew up in Monroe County until age 13. His family 6 then relocated to Metcalfe County, which would be his residence for more than 75 years; 7 and 8 WHEREAS, Tom Emberton completed a four-year tour of duty in the United States 9 Air Force and then enrolled at Western Kentucky University. This was the start of his 10 more than 65 year involvement with the school; and 11 WHEREAS, during his time as a student at Western Kentucky University, Tom 12 Emberton was elected president of his sophomore and junior classes, president of his 13 fraternity, and business manager of the College Heights Herald; and 14 WHEREAS, Tom Emberton completed his law degree at the Louis D. Brandeis 15 School of Law, where he served as president of Delta Theta Psi law fraternity and 16 president of the Student Bar Association; and 17 WHEREAS, Tom Emberton began practicing law in Edmonton, Kentucky, in 1962, 18 and was elected Metcalfe County Attorney in 1964. He served in that role until 1967; and 19 WHEREAS, in 1967 Tom Emberton became part of Governor Louie B. Nunn's 20 administration, and was himself the Republican candidate for governor in 1971; and 21 WHEREAS, Tom Emberton was appointed to the Kentucky Court of Appeals in 22 1987, and was later selected by his fellow judges for the position of Chief Judge. He held 23 that position until his retirement in 2004; and 24 WHEREAS, Tom Emberton was a former member of the Western Kentucky 25 University Board of Regents, past president of the Western Kentucky University Alumni 26 Association Board of Directors, and was a member of the College Heights Foundation 27 UNOFFICIAL COPY 23 RS BR 909 Page 2 of 2 XXXX 12/22/2022 1:43 PM Jacketed Board of Directors for 22 years; and 1 WHEREAS, Tom Emberton is survived by his cherished wife of 65 years, Julia Lee 2 Crutchfield Emberton; his daughter Laura (Donnie) Owens; his son Tom (Stephanie) 3 Emberton Jr.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his sister Janelle Downs; 4 NOW, THEREFORE, 5 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 6 Kentucky: 7 Section 1. The members of the Senate, individually and collectively, hereby 8 extend their most profound sympathy upon the passing of Thomas Dale Emberton Sr. and 9 posthumously thank him for his many contributions to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. 10 Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 11 memory of Thomas Dale Emberton Sr. 12 Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 13 Resolution to Senator Max Wise for delivery to the family. 14
